Davis, Golden Eagles One Win Away From Division Finals

Glens Falls, NY - The #1-seed Glens Falls Golden Eagles beat the fourth-seeded Watertown Wizards on Friday by a score of 5-3 in the first game of the Eastern Division Semi-finals. After finishing 31-10 in the regular season, the Golden Eagles reversed their fortune from 2007 and won the first game of their playoff series.

Starting pitcher Shane Davis (Canisius) pitched eight plus innings and earned the win by striking out four and walking none. The All-American southpaw allowed three runs before yielding to closer Marc Damon (Pima CC). Damon retired the next three batters he faced for the save. Davis took a four-hit shutout into the ninth inning.

Glens Falls received the bulk of its offense from the top of the order. Leadoff man Chad Stang (Midland) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two doubles, one of them driving in a run. Kody Johnson (Pima CC) and Jonathan White (Vanderbilt) added a double and run batted in each. Todd Brazeal (South Florida) clouted a solo homer in the seventh inning and Scott Lawson (Miami) and Stefen Romero (Pima CC) each tallied two hits.

The Wizards received a valiant effort from starter Kyle Hamman (Southern Utah). Hamman struck out four while allowing only two runs on six hits in seven innings. Greg Herbst (Kansas) contributed two doubles and a run batted in.

The Golden Eagles are next in action tomorrow, Saturday, August 2 as they travel to Watertown, NY to battle the Wizards in Game 2 of the Eastern Division Semi-finals at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
