Glens Falls @ Little Falls Postponed

Tonight's game scheduled for 7PM in Little Falls, NY has been postponed because of weather and field conditions.

For Your Consideration

5-0, 0.33 ERA, 2CG, 54IP, 31H, 5R, 2ER, 8BB, 31K, .171BAA

Golden Eagles 5, Mohawks 2

Shane Davis (Canisius) and the Golden Eagles gave themselves some breathing room on Tuesday night in Amsterdam, as a three-game lead in the Eastern Division standings was earned after a 5-2 win. Davis (5-0, 0.33) remains perfect on the year in eight total starts and has now allowed only two earned runs in 54 innings pitched.

The Golden Eagles are now 3-4 against the Mohawks on the season.

Glens Falls rode a Jonathan White (Vanderbilt) two-run single in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good. White was also hit by a pitch and finished the day 1-for-3.

Todd Brazeal (South Florida) clouted his first homer of the season.

Chad Stang (Midland) extended his 15-game hitting streak with a lead-off infield single.

Kody Johnson (Pima CC) went 3-for-5 on the day with a run-scoring single and a run-scoring double. Curt Courtwright (Missouri State), 2-for-4, also doubled and scored a run.

NYCBL Weekly Release Selections

The following are excerpts from the NYCBL Weekly Release for July 21, 2008. The Weekly Releases are a production of NYCBL Director of Media Relations John McGraw.

Eastern Division Player of the Week (week ending July 20, 2008):

Co-Player of the week: Chad Stang (Midland), Glens Falls
Chad Stang batted .481 (13-for-27) and drove in seven runs in seven games for the first-place Golden Eagles. Stang tallied seven walks, four runs scored, three triples, two stolen bases, a double, a .788 slugging percentage and a .581 on-base percentage. He had at least one hit in all seven games along with five multi-hit games and three multi-walk games. Stang walked twice in three-straight games. The Surrey, B.C., native went 5-for-8 in a Friday doubleheader against Watertown and drove in three runs. Stang is currently riding a 14-game hitting streak.

Weekly Team Notes
Glens Falls (5-2 week, 25-9 overall):
The Golden Eagles used a 5-2 week to remain in first place in the Eastern Division. The week ended on a down note with a six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night by Watertown and a 10-7 loss on Sunday at Bennington...Offensively, the Green and Gold accounted for 41 runs in seven games and never had fewer than three runs...Glens Falls walked off with wins against Saratoga in back-to-back games on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday in Saratoga Springs, the Golden Eagles rallied for four eighth-inning runs on one hit, four walks, an error and a hit-batter to erase a 5-3 deficit in a 7-5 win. Friday night in Glens Falls, the Golden Eagles played three runs in the bottom of the ninth on four walks and two hit batters to defeat the Phillies, 4-3. The game ended on a bases-loaded walk to Jonathan White (Vanderbilt)...Crunching the Numbers: Glens Falls drew a total of 14 walks in back-to-back wins over Saratoga...Who's Hot: Stefen Romero (Pima CC) slugged two home runs and drove in seven. Shane Davis (Canisius) whirled a one-hit bid over six innings against Amsterdam last Tuesday.

Week Notes

Heading into the off day today, Glens Falls had a productive 5-2 week, although with losses to Watertown and Bennington, they surely could have had their third perfect week of the season.

- Chad Stang (Midland) finished the week batting at a .481 clip. The Surrey, British Columbia native added three triples and seven walks to go with his 13 hits in 27 at-bats.

- Jose Valerio (San Diego) helped his team-leading batting average of .324 by going .385 in the week. The right-handed first baseman added three doubles, a home run and 16 total bases.

- Stefen Romero (Pima CC) clouted two homers, both coming against Bennington on Sunday. With six dingers on the season, Romero is one short of Kody Johnson's (Pima CC) team lead of seven. Romero tied Stang for the team-lead in runs batted in for the week with seven to take the team-lead for the season with 22.

- Curt Courtwright (Missouri State) hit for a .333 mark on the week in four games.

Game Notes

- Chad Stang (Midland) extended his team season-high hitting streak to 14 games with a double.

- Jose Valerio (San Diego) went 2-4 to raise his team-leading batting average to .324. Valerio leads Glens Falls with 12 multi-hit games.

- Stefen Romero (Pima CC) collected a season-high four runs batted in. Romero is now tied for the team lead with collegiate teammate Kody Johnson (Pima CC) with four multi-RBI games on the season.

Golden Eagles 7, Bombers 10 (Final)

Seven home runs marked this afternoon's contest between the Golden Eagles and the Bombers. Jeff Bercume (Merrimack) had two of those round-trippers and added another hit and a diving catch in the ninth inning to rob Scott Lawson (Miami) of a base hit. The win is the second of the season for the Bombers against Glens Falls. Bennington is now 2-13 against the Golden Eagles all-time.

Bercume's three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Ricky Anaya (Florida Atlantic) put the Bombers on top by a score of 10-7. Anaya was charged with the loss.

The Bombers have scored their second wild-pitch run on the day to even the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Stefen Romero (Pima CC) provided Glens Falls with the early offense with a home-run to give the green and yellow a one-run advantage. Tristan Hobbes (Eastern Connecticut St) tied the game with a solo homer off Golden Eagles starter Scott Denault (San Diego) in the third. Joey Bergmann (Charleston) added a three-run homer in the inning.

Kody Johnson (Pima CC) followed a fourth-inning leadoff triple by Romero with a two-run homer to cut the Bombers lead to only one.

Golden Eagles @ Bombers July 20 1PM

Jack Wagoner (Sacred Heart) is the probably starter for this afternoon's contest at Epstein Field at Southern Vermont College in Bennington. Wagoner is 1-0 against the Bombers this season in one appearance, coming five days earlier on July 15. Jack tossed six innings of one-run ball, scattering seven hits while striking out six and walking only one.

Curt Courtwright (Missouri State) is batting .400 against Bennington in four starts. The Golden Eagles are 5-1 against the Bombers on the season, and 6-1 all-time in the state of Vermont against Bennington. Todd Brazeal (South Florida) is the only position player to start all six games against the Bombers. Brazeal has a double and two runs batted in for the season series. Kody Johnson (Pima CC) has driven in a team-high four runs against the Bombers.

Despite owning a 5-1 season series advantage, the Bombers are out-hitting the Golden Eagles .244 to .235. The answer to that statistical anomaly, as it has been all season, is pitching. Glens Falls pitchers own a 2.25 earned run average against their neighbors from the East.

Weekend Notes

With a two-run triple in their 3-1 win, Chad Stang (Midland) extended his team-leading hitting streak to 13 games. The 13-game streak is the longest by any Golden Eagle in 2008. By going 7-11 in three games between Friday and Saturday, Stang raised his team-leading batting average by 33 points to .317.

Will Hassett (Siena) improved to 2-1 on the season with his one-hitter in the second game of the Watertown doubleheader on Saturday. Hassett lowered his earned run average to 3.90.

Jarrett Lukas (Maine) clubbed his first home-run of the season in Glens Falls' 7-5 eight-inning loss to the Wizards in the first game of the doubleheader. Lukas is batting .250 in ten starts for the green and yellow on the season.

Golden Eagles 7, Bombers 2 (Final)

After being no-hit through four innings and falling behind 1-0, the Golden Eagles got the offense started as Jose Valerio (San Diego) doubled to lead off the top of the fifth inning and break up Bombers starter Matt Fyffe's (Eastern Kentucky) no-hitter. Glens Falls also received run-scoring hits by Jarrett Lukas (Maine) and Chad Stang (Midland). Lukas' single scored one and Stang's triple scored two. Stang and Todd Brazeal (South Florida) scored on an error and a passed ball to stretch the Golden Eagles advantage to 5-1.

The top of the sixth inning produced two more runs for the Golden Eagles when Valerio clouted a two-run homer to score Jonathan White (Vanderbilt). The field umpire over-ruled the home plate umpire's decision of a ground-rule double.

Jack Wagoner (Sacred Heart) started the game on the mound and left with the lead before yielding to Anthony Giansanti (Siena) in his second pitching appearance in as many days.
